What the Course Covers

Over five days, you’ll cover key areas including:

Health and safety legislation (HSAWA 1974, CDM 2015, etc.)
Risk assessments and method statements
Managing occupational health risks
Working at height, scaffolding, and temporary works
Site set-up, fire safety, and emergency procedures
Effective communication and leadership in safety
Legal responsibilities and enforcement

How You’ll Be Taught

Courses are delivered either in person or online via Zoom by qualified, experienced tutors. Sessions are interactive, combining presentations, case studies, group discussions, and practical exercises.

At the end of the course, you’ll sit a 25-question exam (18 multiple-choice and 7 safety-critical questions). A pass mark of 81% is required, but don’t worry — our trainers ensure you’re fully prepared.

Certification and Qualification

Once you pass the exam, you’ll receive a CITB SMSTS certificate, valid for five years.

This qualification:

Meets principal contractor training requirements
Is often requested on large infrastructure and commercial projects
Supports applications for CSCS Black Manager Cards
Demonstrates your competence to manage health and safety at a high level

Duration: 5 days (typically run over one week or split across weekends)
