For those working in the construction industry, an SMSTS course is likely to be something you are familiar with. The Site Management Safety Training Scheme is aimed at those responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administrating others – such as a site manager role. It teaches the relevant legislation in safe working in building, construction and civil engineering and is recognised and respected by those in the industry.
It is a short course, which usually takes five days to complete and a SMSTS refresher needs to be taken every five years to refresh the qualification.
While this is a great introduction and usually a minimum requirement for those responsible for health and safety on site, for those looking to build a career in health and safety and take on higher responsibilities for health and safety management – a NEBOSH certificate can be the ideal way to build up your qualifications to work your way up the ladder.
The NEBOSH General Certificate is a higher level qualification to the SMSTS course and takes longer to complete but is well worth it if you’re serious about a career in health and safety. If you wanted to progress even further, you could take on the NEBOSH diploma further down the line.
There are three units that make up the NEBOSH certificate – Management of Health and Safety, Control of Workplace Hazards and Health Safety Application. These can be completed in classroom, online or via in-company training. If you’re looking to progress your HSE career and want to build knowledge that spans multiple industries, the NEBOSH certificate is the ideal solution to adding to your qualifications and stand out from others on your CV and show you’re serious.
How Long Does It Take To Complete a NEBOSH Certificate?
The time it takes to complete your NEBOSH general certificate really depends on you, but the three units must be successfully completed within five years to obtain your qualification. Our classroom based option consists of a 10-day course and exam, while our online option includes 130 hours of study and exams but can be completed worldwide. You can also opt for in-company training if your employer supports it around your daily responsibilities.
Whatever option you choose, a NEBOSH certificate is the perfect accompaniment to your SMSTS course, so if you would like to expand your HSE knowledge, experience and credentials get in contact with us at Target Zero and we can get you on your way to becoming a leader in the health and safety industry.
90% of our students have successfully completed their NEBOSH certificate training and we have an above average pass rate with classroom and exam centres in Chelmsford, Hull and Peterborough. Why Choose a NEBOSH Certificate?
