About the EUSR Water Hygiene Card Course
This course has one main objective: to provide attendees with an understanding of the vital part they can play in maintaining clean and safe drinking water – and as a result, protecting public health. The National Water Hygiene Scheme has been developed in collaboration with all of the UK’s water companies and equips attendees with a solid knowledge and awareness of good water hygiene practices.
The course has four modules, which are as follows:
- Module 1: The importance of water
- Module 2: Water as a carrier of disease
- Module 3: Potential contamination and its consequences
- Module 4: Preventing contamination
Who is the Course For?
All UK water companies require individuals entering clean water sites or working on the clean water network to hold a National Water Hygiene EUSR registration. The clean water network is also known as ‘Restricted Operations’, and covers:
- Service reservoirs
- Water pumping stations
- Water treatment works
- Wells
- Springs
- Boreholes
- The UK’s network of water mains and service pipes
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued a National Water Hygiene EUSR photo ID card which is also known as the Blue Card. This is valid for 3 years.
Eligibility and Health Screening
To take part in this course, you will need to have a good command of written and spoken English. A health screening questionnaire must also be completed to confirm that you do not have any diseases which can be passed into the clean water network.

EUSR Category 1 – Locating Underground Services

The EUSR Safe Dig Cat 1 provides training on safely detecting utility services using a CAT & Genny and covers the basic requirements of HSG47: Avoiding Danger from Underground Services.
Card
Delegates will be provided with information relating to the virtual card online app VIRCARDA. Shortly after results are processed by EUSR, delegates will receive a text message or email with login details for the VIRCARDA app which will enable them to view their card/s. All cards are partnered with the CSCS card scheme allowing the holder access UK construction sites without the need for another card.
Booking
Once you have booked online you will be emailed Joining Instructions, confirming the course details and the venue address. All Target Zero EUSR training and assessment is carried out by one of our approved, accredited EUSR partners. Please remember to bring photographic ID (passport or driving licence).
