What to Expect from SMSTS Online in Scotland
When you join our SMSTS Online course, you will receive the same high standard of training as you would in person. The course is delivered live via Zoom by qualified instructors with real experience in the construction industry. You will be able to speak directly with your tutor, ask questions and take part in group activities and discussions as you would in a classroom environment.
Course Overview
The SMSTS Online course runs for five days and covers:
- Health and safety legislation
- Legal duties of site managers
- Risk assessment and hazard control
- Monitoring procedures on site
- Case studies and classroom style exercises
You will complete the course with a strong understanding of how to manage health and safety responsibilities across construction sites.
Assessment and Certification
To successfully complete the course, you must attend every session, engage in exercises and pass a final exam. You will then receive a CITB SMSTS certificate, valid for five years. After that, you will need to complete the SMSTS Refresher course before your certificate expires. Digital certificates are issued by CITB within two to three weeks following course completion.

- A Delegate Information Form, which must be submitted before the course begins
You will receive the Zoom link for the course by 6pm the evening before it starts. If you have not received it by 8.15am on the morning of the course, please contact us on 0333 444 0018. We recommend logging in at 8.00am to resolve any technical issues. The course begins promptly at 8.30am.
