About the EUSR Category 1 Course
Category 1: Locate Utility Services (often referred to as HSG47, Cat 1 or Cat & Genny training) covers everything that is required to safely detect buried utility services – all while using recognised and approved detection methods.
Buried utility services include underground pipes and cables. It can also be used to describe equipment that is used in public essentials such as electricity, gas, water, sewage and telecommunications, along with pipelines transporting oil and natural gas in the commercial sector. Knowing how to locate these utilities and safely work around them will help you to avoid causing any disruption to services, and also protect you and others from injury.
Course Outline
This 1-day course is delivered through a mix of practical and theory-based exercises and tutorials. The course aims to leave you knowing how to do the following with confidence:
- Interpret utility plan drawings and identify symbols and coded information
- Prepare and use location equipment to locate a range of underground services
- Identify the dangers and hazards associated with underground services
- Recognise why some services are more difficult to locate
- Carry out site marking using appropriate methods
Once you have successfully completed the course, you will receive your EUSR-accredited certificate and ID card. This is valid for a total of 3 years.
