How to get an NVQ in roofing: the short answer

You enrol with a training provider, an assessor is assigned to you, and you build a portfolio of evidence from your live roofing work: photos, videos, job records, witness statements and professional discussions. The assessor maps that evidence to the national occupational standard for roofing occupations and signs off each unit as it is proven. Once the units are complete, the qualification is awarded. The qualification: Level 3 NVQ in Roofing Occupations

The qualification we deliver is the Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Roofing Occupations, awarded through Pearson, one of the UK’s largest OFQUAL-regulated awarding organisations. At Level 3, the qualification recognises advanced craft competence: complex work, working on your own initiative, and often overseeing others. That is why it maps to the Gold Advanced Craft CSCS card, the recognised proof of senior skilled status.

What the assessment involves

Enrolment and induction: your assessor plans which units your current jobs will evidence.
Evidence gathering: collected from live roofing work while you earn, photographs, video, site documentation and discussions.
Sign-off and certification: units are assessed and signed off progressively, then the NVQ is certificated by the awarding organisation.

How long does a roofing NVQ take?

Most working roofers complete in a matter of months. The pace is set by how quickly your workload generates the evidence, so busy roofers often finish sooner. Because there is no attendance requirement, nothing about the process takes you off the tools.

From NVQ to CSCS card
